It’s Never Too Late to Perfect Your Smile
It is never too late for braces. In fact, nearly one in every five orthodontic patients is over 21.
Most adults who get braces do so because of a medical need or a want to look and feel better, so the reasons aren’t much different than that of a teenager getting braces.
The primary reason people receive braces at a younger age is that teens and children have teeth that are still growing and adjusting. This growth makes it an ideal time to adjust the teeth. That said, there are several reasons why braces for adults are still necessary. An accident could result in misalignment, patients may just now have a good financial standing to comfortably afford treatment, or there may be aesthetic concerns. Anyone can be a candidate for braces, and a complimentary consultation with our team can help you determine the best treatment plan for you.
Choosing the Right Treatment Options
At Guidry & Horaist Orthodontics, we offer different types of braces for you to choose from. While each option is just as effective as the next, we know that appearance can be an important part of the treatment process. We want you to feel confident and comfortable throughout the entire process.
Metal Braces
The more traditional metal brackets are what people typically think of when braces come to mind. Metal braces work by fastening a bracket to the front of each tooth and connecting them with a metal wire and rubber bands to gradually shift your teeth into place.
Clear Braces
Clear ceramic braces are the more aesthetically pleasing option for braces. Made from ceramic that blends in with your natural tooth color, these brackets have a more discreet appearance than traditional metal brackets.
Self-ligating Braces
Self-ligating braces work similarly to traditional or clear braces. Instead of rubber bands, however, the brackets feature built-in clips with sliding door technology to hold the wires in place. With self-ligating braces, adjustment appointments tend to be shorter and less frequent.
How Long Will My Treatment Last?
Treatment times can vary based on the issues needing correction. Typically, the average wear time is between 12 and 24 months. However, those with simple, aesthetic corrections could have shorter treatment times, and in contrast, those with more severe issues may be in treatment for a longer period.
There is no age limit to wearing braces. What matters concerning braces for adults is the need to achieve beautiful, straight teeth and a healthier smile! Whatever your reason for treatment, we are here to help.
